Serving the Lord Part 2

In the last post, we considered the Challenge of serving the Lord.  In this post, we will consider the Hindrance to serving the Lord.

Romans 12:2 KJV 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

One thing which keeps God’s children from the challenge get forth in Romans 12:2 is the tendency to conform to the world.  Conformity to the world is important to many who are lost, but the saved should have a different priority.  In fact, Paul said, “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” Galatians 6:14.

Conformity to this world means having appetites and ambitions which conform to this world. The apostle John wrote, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world” I John 2:16. Believers must not conform to that way of life.  That is the way of the world, those who do not have the love of the Father.  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” I John 2:15.

“But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind” spells out the remedy for overcoming the hindrance to the challenge, The believer should be occupied more with godly things. Paul said, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” Philippians 2:5.   If we conform more to the attitude and thinking of Christ, we will have our hearts set on heavenly things.  “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on earth” Colossians 3:1, 2.

So, there is the hindrance to the challenge and the solution to it.
